Installing DoD certificates can cure most issues
With the exception of downloading the ActivClient software below, you can use the notes page for a successful CAC installation on your personal computer.
WINDOWS 7 USERS: If you have a PIV II compliant CAC (back shows: "Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144K" or "Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual") and you are running Windows 7, you may be able to use your CAC without any middleware. You can also visit the Nerdy nerd nerdz website
NAVY personnel have these options to get ActivClient (I wish it was easier for you to get the software):
https://wwwa.nko.navy.mil/portal/navressubmarine/home/SubmarineReserveHomePage There is a link on that page on the far right that says ActivClient 6.2 which points to the following file: https://private.navyreserve.navy.mil/_layouts/ActivClient_6.2.zip
2. Visit: https://infosec.nmci.navy.mil/PKI/tools.html#software you will need to login with a CAC
3. Contact your IT (Information Technology) personnel to get the software. The Command IAM (Information Assurance Manager) controls the licensing through the INFOSEC website.
4. Navy Reserve personnel are able to login to https://navyreserve.navy.mil to download the software (from an already CAC enabled computer). It is located on the CNRFC N64 CAC/PKI page on the private side of the website. Your NOSC can provide CAC readers for you.
4a. Another option for Navy Reserve personnel is to email
5. Further questions can be sent to: Internet Explorer users need to make sure that SSL 2 is unchecked, SSL3 & TLS 1.0 are checked to be able to access Navy websites including OWA webmail: NADSUSEA https://webmail.east.nmci.navy.mil or NADSUSWE https://webmail.west.nmci.navy.milIf you only want to use your CAC to logon to a CAC enabled sites (and not use DTS), you may want to consider using LPS (Lightweight Portable Security)
If you are unsure whether you have a 32 or 64 bit version, here is how to find out:
Vista & 7, Right click Computer, select Properties. Under System, System type you see 32 or 64 bit.XP, Right click My Computer, select Properties. If it doesn't say 64 bit, you have a 32 bit Operating System.
Microsoft Update Root Utility fix
You may purchase ActivClient 6.2 (Works with Windows 7, Vista, & XP) from the following vendors: Envoy Data Corporation for $65.00 SCB Solutions for $59.75 TXSystems for $68.00
Checking your NMCI email is easy if you follow the guidance here
Information for NAVY personnel using Apple Computers: NROWS will not continue to the login page if it identifies your browser as non-compatible. This is easily fixed by having Safari report it "is" IE. Go to Safari->Preferences->Advanced and ensure the "Show develop menu" check box is ticked. Now when you open NROWS and it gives the browser error, go to the Develop menu in the menu bar and select User Agent->Internet Explorer (any version 6.0 or greater) The "Unsupported" page will refresh, just hit the back button and voila, you're at the login screen. This works from the Navy Reserve Web site, or directly to the url: https://nrows.sscno.nmci.navy.mil/nrows/
